Many complain that we should have more choices on the ballot. I see many choices. It is up to us as to what we do with them.  I say we actually have seven different choices when we go from primary to general election. The primary breaks up the Democratic and Republican parties into divisions within giving us the seven choices. In a general federal election, our choices can be Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, or Green. Independent is not a party but is listed as such and is a choice. These are five different choices, although we know that if there is a Green candidate, it takes away from the Democratic candidate, and if we have a Libertarian candidate it takes away from the Republican candidate.

The Democratic Party believes in a women’s right to choose. Democrats believe in marriage for all. They believe in the separation of church and state as stated in the Constitution. They believe in regulations that keep corporations from taking advantage of the consumer in many ways, from pollution to scam advertising. They believe in free education. They believe that healthcare is a right not a privilege. They believe in asylum for immigrants and a fair course for citizenship. They believe in science and the truth. They believe we must give back to Mother Earth for all our abuse and solve the climate crisis. They believe in helping all states in the time of emergencies. Democrats believe in the bubble-up economy. This is when the worker is doing well and unions survive. They believe in gun control as well as the 2nd Amendment. They believe in a military but not aggression; they believe in diplomacy more than war. They believe in a police force without assault rifles. The Democrats started Social Security and continue to protect it. They initiated Medicare and Medicaid. There are three different left-leaning choices in the primary; Green Party, Corporate Democrat, or Progressive.

The Green Party claims they believe in everything that Democrats believe, but they put the environment first. My problem with the Green Party is that it doesn’t live up to it’s name. They haven’t done anything for the environment for a long time, and the only time they seem to have a candidate is when the Republicans want to the take votes away from the Democratic candidate.

The Corporate Democrat believes in the policies of the Democrats, but they like the corporate donations that help them get elected. Unfortunately, this gets in the way of what is best for their constituents. This is Sinema and Manchin.

What sets apart the Progressive Democrat is that they do not take money from corporations. They have to look to their constituents for donations. Once we get dirty money out of politics by changing the Supreme Court regarding, Citizens United, then we can set up better methods for campaigns. Progressives are the most ethical of all politicians. They follow the beliefs of the Democrats but realize the lobbyist control is overwhelming and that changes the politicians’ purpose to represent the people instead of the sponsor.

As mentioned earlier, under the Democratic Party, we have Corporate, Progressive and the Green Party. Those who identify with these will vote for a Democrat especially if there is no Green Party candidate. The Progressives are working to change the Corporate Democrats to Progressives. The Corporate Democrats, such as senators Manchin and Sinema, are not the only ones. As Democrats, it is our duty to check out our candidates and vote for the best ones. We make this choice in the primary. The Green Party rarely has a candidate and running is frowned on by Democrats, because a Green Party candidate will take votes away from the Democratic candidate often giving the election to the Republican. Republicans fear Progressives, because they want to take power away from billionaires and give it to the people. They try to claim Democrats are Communists. They say big government will take away our freedom, when the only freedom taken away is freedom from corporations to take advantage and pollute.

The Republican Party believes in a strong military and a strong police force. They believe in small government and want to privatize everything including Social Security, and President George W. Bush tried to do that when he was in office. Republicans created Citizens United, so that anyone should be able to contribute to an election without transparency.  Because they push low taxes for everyone and no taxes for the rich, they need Citizens United to compete in elections.

Under the Republican Party, there are conservatives or the GOP (some would say this is the neo-liberal group), the trumpers, the Libertarians.  All three follow the trickle-down economy. This has been around since Reagan introduced i,t and both Democrats and Republicans embraced it. Democrats have realized the trickle-down economy doesn’t work. The money stays at the top causing a great divide between the rich and poor. Republicans continue to support this economy that favors the rich and demonizes the poor. The Republicans also push small government which means eliminating regulations. They believe in deregulation so that corporations can thrive without any repercussions for pollution or poison. They want Christian values to thrive. This is ignoring the separation of church and state as laid out in the Constitution. Republicans like to have a very strong military. They want to stop immigration. They have not passed a bill that helps their constituents since Nixon. 

Even though the trumpers are not all racist, the White supremacists are trumpers. trumpers believe only Trump. As he spews his lies on the election, they follow. It appears to be setting up a Fascist regime: Trump is their leader. They will privatize everything. They believe in small government. They are dominating the Republicans and the right-wing propaganda supports this. That is why it is growing. You have three major networks that are right-wing, OAN, NewsMax, and Fox as well as 1,500 right-wing talk show hosts who spew the lies of tRump and do not care about the truth. Or if they do, it is very biased. Since they offer nothing to the people, their whole agenda is about making the Democrats look like Communists and to take down, public schools and the post office. tRump’s presidency has destroyed many facets of federal departments. He didn’t destroy the EPA, but he butchered it, as he did with many departments except the military and the police. Q-anon is moving into the tRumpers and taking over. They believe lying conspiracies. They are hateful and express that they are ready for violence.

The old GOP still believes in democracy. They do see through many of the lies of the trumpers but continue to justify small government and trickle-down economy and low taxes. They support much of what the trumpers do but not the lies of the election that are bringing down democracy. They are ridiculed and harassed by trumpers as RINOs (Republicans In Name Only).

The Libertarian supports small government and trickle-down economy. These two policies are well-funded by billionaires and corporations. They favor deregulation, because it helps to take down the government in favor of profits for the corporations. They make sure they do not have to pay taxes. The Libertarian voter has been conned to believe this is freedom. They want to get rid of the war on drugs. Let all transgender and gays marry who they want. They are OK with immigrants seeking asylum unlike their other Republican counterparts. They do not believe in war. So they side with the Democrats on the social issues but not the economic issues. The party is highly supported by the billionaires. The Koch brothers superpac have been funding it since it started.  A lot of money is spent to convince the intellectual Republican that this is the smart decision when it believes in basically no government. They differ from the Republicans in social and military issues and are insulted to be called Republican. They normally vote with the Republicans in Congress and at the polls but are more open to voting for a Democrat than the Republicans. With Citizens United still around, the billionaires can spend all the money they want on controlling the narrative. They would rather do this than pay their fair share of taxes. They advocate for low taxes for everyone and no taxes for the billionaire class.

The best way to pick your candidate is to see what element of your party they align with. Do some research and see if their beliefs align with yours. The primary has much importance here. Being an Independent enables you to pick and choose your policies, but it also can be wishy washy.  As a politician, it can be a benefit but as a voter you are left out of the primaries. This eliminates some of your choices. As pointed out, there are different types of Democrats, and there are different types of Republicans. With the primary, I add up seven different choices.

An international propaganda threat is attacking many countries. It starts with Fox news, Sinclair Broadcasting and Breitbart.com. These are very right wing media. They go beyond bias with their reporting. The lies, falsehoods, and spins all align with the far-right agenda.

Fox news is owned by Rupert Murdoch from Australia. His network reach is worldwide. It is said Canada refuses to show without pointing to the fact they are not news but falsehoods spinning the news to come over as another perspective. England is said to have banned Fox and New Zealand has mentioned this problem. Fox probably the most powerful of all news (so-called) in the world. No other network spans this wide and they have convinced their audience they are one of the most trusted. Trusted only because they are popular. They do present some news accurately but only if it doesn’t offend their message. They are supporters of D. Trump. During the campaign the alleged Stormy Daniels crime was never shown on Fox news. The right-wing media spin his lies to make him look good and it would hard to find any message that reports anything positive about a Democrat. They twist the news to blame the Democrats and constantly call them socialist with a real bad twist on Socialism. Why because Democracy threatens their bottom line. The latest is a fake video of Nancy Pelosi slurring her words which is an altered movie. In the USA the Democrats are what are stopping them to being the only party.

Right now the right-wing nationalists has been moving into several countries throughout the world. It is not just the USA. The new young chancellor Sebastian Kurz of Austria is from the right wing and he just aligned himself with the freedom party which is the still the existing Nazi party. They are intentionally taking apart Democracy with the support of their followers. England is having it’s problems with Brexit which is their far right party. France is definitely being influenced and so is Italy. Watch these countries as they fall to this agenda.

Many of our habits throughout the earth have effects on the balance of nature. Unfortunately, greed plays a part in much of the abuse of our resources. From the pouching of animals for tusks, cutting down of trees for palm oil to the overuse of natural resources. We are faced with nefarious deceptions to fill the pockets of a few. SAM expresses her concerns over the use of petroleum oil during earth week.

In 1894 William T. Love started digging to create a canal from Niagara River to Lake Ontario. He wanted to build an electro-hydraulic power plant to service the city of Niagara Falls. He ran out of funds around the time of the great depression late 20’s. In 1947 he ended up auctioning off this property with a huge 16-arce hole to Hooker Chemical and Plastics Corporation. They started filling it up with Chemical waste and toxins in metal drums. They filled it with close to 22,000 tons of waste. They covered it with dirt and sold it to the county of Niagara for $1. They built a school and a playground on this site. Then built a community of homes around it.

Not far away a young girl was barely graduating from high school. It didn’t matter to her because she just wanted to get married and raise a family. When Lois Gibbs got married her and her husband bought a house in this community and started raising their family. Everything was fine except her children had a lot of health issues. Her son got asthma at a very young age, serious urinary infections and epilepsy at 9. With that, she went to the school to see if they could accommodate him. Lois Gibbs noticed the department of health survey the area as she walked into the school and asked the principal about this. The principal responded, that “there were articles in the Niagara Journal had a few articles a couple weeks back about the chemicals buried under the school and they were seeping out and causing health problems.” She said, “Isn’t that ridiculous and a waste of tax-payers money.” Lois was so sure it was ridiculous. She didn’t get the paper but went to the library to read them.

She was horrified to find all the aliments caused by these chemicals including everything her children had and cancers, leukemia, liver and kidney failure, birth defects and more. She asked a neighbor what he thought. He said, “They’ll say anything to sell newspapers.” She decided to talk to the author herself and went to the journal. The author told her that he spent a lot of time on the article and he didn’t print lies. He gave her the name of the biologist who was doing the research on these effects.

Lois just wanted to get her kids out of that school. She went to the school board and they told her it was against the rules. He would have to do that for everyone. She finally went to see the biologist. The biologist told her she had plenty for her to read but she had to start a petition to close the school. “Close the school? for how long?” Lois asked. Maybe 500 years the biologist responded. “I would sign a petition but I barely have a high school diploma I wouldn’t know the first thing about starting a petition. I just want to get my kids out of there.” Lois said. The biologist shared it was her duty to help the other kids. You don’t want to leave them in the school and you are the only one who has shown interest.

Lois took the documents and started to read. She found out there was 247 different chemicals including  benzoyl and dioxin. She went door to door and got the signature. She was invited to an EPA meeting at the capitol in Albany 4 hours away. She went with her husband and friend. They meeting had a few hundred people and the EPA officer shared they were about to close the school Lois had petitioned and they asked the children under the age of 2 and pregnant mothers to evacuate the area. Lois’s friend shouted out. “I have a 2 year old daughter what about her and I had a stillborn and a miscarriage what about me.” They didn’t answer her. Lois yelled out, “Answer her.” They didn’t. She yelled out again. They said that by the age of 2 a child’s immune system is developed. Lois yelled out, that is not good enough. What about the rest of us. Lois was so enraged she was forcefully escorted out of the meeting but she made national news.

When she got home she was cheered and honored as a hero. Her neighbors started a home owners association and made her president. They wanted compensation to move out. That was in 1978. It took Lois 2 years. A lawsuit against the chemical company and the county to compensate for health issues and in 1980 President Jimmy Carter agreed to move out 900 families. Lois won.

Lois Gibbs was then sought after for her expertise. She started the Clearinghouse for Hazardous Waste now known as the Center for Health, Environment and Justice. She continues to serve as the Executive Director.

Lois has won many Environment Awards and was nominated for a Nobel Peace Price in 2003.

She was honor with college degrees including a doctorate.

30 years ago SAM moved into a home that was on a toxic plume. Motorola had tainted the ground water with TCE a degreaser they used to clean parts. She started organizing to get justice for the cancer cluster in the area and to clean up the water. She has taken an interest in the environment. This speech is about Global Warming.

Speech:

Imagine it is the year 2216. What would the earth be like? Would it be overrun with water? Would the land that is left be barren? Would there be any animal or human life left or would it just be ants and cock roaches?

Mr Toastmaster, fellow toastmasters and honored guests. This is the grime reality of the path we are on. The earth is warming and it has accelerated since the Industrial age. Global warming is about the green house gases. They are manufactured by nature. The green house gases form a blanket around the earth that keeps us warm. Without these gases the earth would be frigid and life as we know it would not exist. Since the Industrial age the blanket has thickened causing the earth to start warming up.

What’s the difference in a few degrees anyway? Last summer here in Arizona we lost lives because of the heat. Is this just the beginning? It just so happens that Arizona’s temperatures are raising faster then any other state. A few degrees has made a difference has affected the weather; hurricanes (Matthew), tornados, earthquakes and simonies have all become more frequent and more powerful. Don’t forget about droughts and flash floods.

Flash floods usually happen when there is a lot of rain. It can break damns rush through a community taking lives and leaving people homeless. They back up sewers causing an outbreak of cholera and dysentery. This usually affects children. There is a grim reality. Losing your home and watching your children suffer with these ailments.

A few degrees can make a difference if there is a frost. If there isn’t a frost in an area, the bugs, bacteria, germs, viruses do not die off. They thrive. Mosquitoes don’t have to wait for the spring to hatch. They keep multiplying. Then we spray pesticides with that it kills the good bugs like the bees. This causes new diseases like Zika and Ebola. I don’t even want to swim in the pond I did as a kid cause there is something called the flesh-eating virus out there.

70% of the earth is water and only 2.5% of that is fresh water. How much of that is clean? Pollution is another speech.

There is a scientist Dr Katie Walters who noticed that the Siberian lakes were expanding in size. It is because of the permafrost is melting. Methane is percolating from the soil. Methane is a green house gas. There isn’t as much in the atmosphere as the carbons but it is 84 times as potent. She monitored the methane in the water and she found it to have 5 times as much methane as predicted. The ocean is doing the same thing. Our oceans are turning acidic. This is destroying the coral reefs and killing the fish.

A few degrees are melting the glaciers and ice in the arctic and anarchic. Wildlife use to thrive in these areas and are now struggling to survive and it is our fault.

It is not just the water. Dr Alan Savory a scientist from South Africa points out that over 2/3s of our land is barren. Areas that are not desert or have arid climate. He calls this desertification. One way we cause this is the way we herd our livestock. We bring them into a thriving area where they completely deplete the vegetation leaving it totally barren. They move to another area. When it is this barren, when it rains the water doesn’t penetrate the ground it evaporates off. The ground is exposed and carbons escape into the atmosphere.

A few years ago read in an almanac from about 1908 that they were concerned about the amount of horse manure in the streets. It was causing a nauseating smell and your shoes would get dirty crossing the streets. We solved it when we invented the automobile.

We can fix this too. It is in our power. We do not have to colonize Mars.

Dr Savory shared he has found a solution. He noticed in nature when animals herd to protect themselves from their predators they move into an area, trample the grass, graze as they want then move on. Leaving the dune and urine. When it rains, the grass holds the water and carbons in the ground. As you can see he transformed a barren area into a thriving area.

We are moving to alternative fuels and forms of energy to stop using fossil fuels. There is even talk of harnessing the methane gas from the ocean as an alternative fuel.

We need to make this a priority and hold our leaders accountable. Then we can imagine the year 2216 to be the way we want it to be for the future generations to come.

The Aha Moment for me that had an Eureka Effect was when I saw the Internet in 1993 and then seeing how easy it was to make a website. I had to do this and I did. This was when nobody knew what a website was.

I recently had another Aha Moment and that is when I started the new business venture I am in. I had to do it and it has changed my life.

I traveled to Italy for a fashion and art tour back when I was in college. We were to take the bus to France heading toward Paris. The bus driver did not speak any English but he drove a bus load of American Students from Italy to France through the Pyrennes Mountains. He must have ridden that route many times because all of us were on edge as he took the corners and switch backs like he didn’t care what happened. We didn’t have seat belts and we were being thrown around. We did make it safely to Thonon France where we were left on the side of the road with our luggage.

Talk about being outside your comfort zone. When someone throws you a lemon make lemon aide.  How do we react when we are outside our comfort zone. Is it the thrill of a lifetime or make you want.
